Deer Repellent

"Zero Deer" - A repellent to discourage deer browse to flowers, shrubs, and other vulnerable plant life.

Searched stores and the internet only to find deer repellents that were more expensive than the plant life to be protected? We used to use "Deer Off", which is a great product except for two things.

It is EXPENISVE, with a gallon of the concentrate costing some hefty dollars!
Re-Application If you look at some impartial reviews, such as those at epinions.com, you will see that a common thread is the statement that one needs to re-apply "far more often" than is advertised.

At the rate our family was going through "Deer Off", it would be more economical to just re-plant the flowers on a monthly basis! What we needed was an economical repellent that would effectively keep the deer away. We tried predator urine, dog hair at the base of the flowers, netting, irish spring soap, etc. The list goes on and on. Finally I became determined to make an effective deer repellent from commonly available materials. After two years of working on the formula and comparing the efficacy to that of Deer Off, we finally have something that is both effective and economical.

I was elated and immediately began the process of marketing this magic solution. The further I got into the process, the more I felt I was shooting both myself and the ultimate consumer in the foot. For one thing, a good portion of any deer repellent, even the concentrate, is water. Why does the consumer need to buy water? Why do we need to ship it around the country? Secondly, unless one wants to pay the really big $$$$, one must buy concentrate and mix the repellent solution in a sprayer.

The mixing is what really led us to the path of selling instructional materials rather than the product. We feel that with the help of our materials that you can make your own for not much more trouble than it takes to mix any type of product in a gardent sprayer.

Lastly there are the issues of government regulation. I'll spare you the details, but with the hoops one must jump through to satisfy regualtory, bio hazard, and safety regquirements, it is a wonder that "Deer Off" isn't $1,000.00/gal.
